MagSmart: A series of magnetic field sensor devices (magnetometers).

The MagSmart quadruple magnetometry platform, with its modular architecture, covers a broad spectrum of magnetic field measurements—from precise static measurements to tracking alternating and rapidly varying fields. Utilizing three specialized chips from STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments for its digital sensors, along with an analog search-coil sensor customized to customer requirements, the device offers flexible configuration and can be delivered with one, two, three, or all four sensors depending on the desired accuracy and operating range. This platform addresses all three magnetic field regimes—very weak, intermediate, and strong—and operates across three frequency modes: static DC, low-frequency AC, and, with the optional search-coil module, high-frequency AC fields. At its core, three distinct sensor options deliver differentiated performance: the first is a low-noise, high-performance weak-field sensor with 16-bit resolution and adjustable full-scale ranges of ±4 to ±16 gauss, ideal for precision laboratory measurements and detecting subtle anomalies; the second is an ultra-low-power intermediate-field sensor with a dynamic range of ±50 gauss (±5 mT), suitable for power-sensitive applications; and the third is a high-speed, high-accuracy strong-field sensor featuring a linear 3-axis Hall effect sensor with temperature compensation and angular accuracy of ±0.5°, perfect for magnetic motion tracking, motor control, and precise positioning. Additionally, the search-coil module serves as the fourth option, enabling detection of alternating fields from a few hertz up to several hundred kilohertz—surpassing the bandwidth of digital sensors and making MagSmart a unique tool for high-frequency field tracking. All sensors are managed by a central microcontroller, which streams raw or calibrated data live to a computer via USB (virtual serial port) or other standard interfaces. A physical control console with a keypad and display is also integrated into the device, allowing users to adjust critical parameters such as active sensor selection, full-scale range, sampling rate, alarm thresholds, and internal filters without needing a computer connection. These capabilities make MagSmart a versatile and powerful instrument for a wide range of applications, including calibration and precision measurement laboratories, magnetic navigation and positioning for robotics and industrial valve control, non-destructive testing and material inspection for mapping DC anomalies and detecting high-frequency eddy currents from surface defects, geophysical and archaeological research for recording minute variations in Earth's magnetic field, condition monitoring of industrial equipment, and educational and research settings as an excellent platform for comparing three different sensing technologies within a single device.
